A closer look at SIDI’s technology

Not quite sure what it is that sets SIDI apart from every other cycling shoe?

Wire PUSH CarbVer_WhiRedBack in the early seventies, most cyclists just nailed cleats to the soles of their shoes. Of course that sounds crazy to people today. But it sounded crazy to Dino Signori way back then. Sidi’s Wire road shoe is one of the most popular shoes in the professional peloton and it’s worn by folks with names like Ivan Basso, Peter Sagan, and Chris Froome. But Signori’s aspirations aren’t limited to the road circuit. The challenge he’s set for himself and for Sidi is to provide every kind of cyclist with the best shoe for the job it road, off-road, cyclo-cross, or even triathlon. Granted, a lot of people might think trying to be the best at everything is crazy. But then again, a lot of people thought nailing cleats to the soles of their shoes was a good idea.

How to Use SiDi Shoe Technology

SiDi Heel Cup System (HCS)

SiDi has thought of, created and patented a mechanism that tightens the top of the heel cup so that it doesn’t slip during steep climbs or sprints. Made in thermoplastic it can be easily replaced or removed, just remove the black button and unscrew the screw.

SiDi Calliper Buckle

The micrometric closure called Caliper buckle is regulated by lifting the central buckle. In order to completely open, lift together both side buckles, while to slightly loosen the closure during the race the central clip must be lifted.

User instructions:

  • Insert serrated strap using slight pressure.
  • With a click lock movement; work with the lever for perfect micro adjustment closure.
  • To slightly loosen the closure during the race the central clip must be lifted.
  • To open, lift together both side buckles and release strap.

SiDi Soft Instep Closure System/Arch Compression Strap

Instructions for the substitution and adjustment of the “Instep Closure System”

  • To remove and to extend the Instep Closure System, lift piece -A- slightly and then pull to extract.
  • Insert the new Instep Closure System -B- into the two openings -C- and adjust as desired.
  • If the strap is too long, proceed cutting the extra length.

Ultra SL Buckle

Allows locking in two different ways:

  1. By taking up a number of clicks with one sweep of the lever
  2. By engaging half click at a time for a truly micrometric adjustment
  3. The two red flaps may be pressed together for complete unlocking or alternately to slightly loosen the shoe during performance.

User instructions:

  • Insert serrated strap using slight pressure.
  • With a click lock movement; work with the lever for perfect micro adjustment closure.
  • To open, push both red wings and release strap.
  • To loosen the strap half click at a time, push the red wings alternately. Easy to adjust while racing.
  • Spider Micro Lock and straps are available as replacement parts.
  • If the strap is too long, proceed cutting the extra length.

Tecno II System – T-II

Tecno II buckle uses monofilament line and a fine-tooth ratchet for smooth adjustment and even pressure distribution Allows frontal micrometric closure and adapts the upper of the shoe to the shape of the foot for a customised fit. The Tecno II system is now smaller and can be replaced more easily.

How To Use The Tecno II

  • To loosen the T-II closure, press the unlocking button down, following the direction indicated by the arrow and, at the same time, exercising a slight pressure while fitting the shoe.
  • Lift the semi-lunar handle and turn it clockwise up to the desired closure.
  • Pay attention to never turn the handle anticlockwise!!

How to substitute the Tecno II

  • Take the nylon string off its holder A.
  • Use a pointed object to push pin B out and then remove the red handle C and the cover D.
  • Hold the mechanism as you press down the regulator knob to unlock and to extract the mechanism from underneath.
  • To assemble the new mechanism, pass the nylon string under and through the mechanism.
  • Place the tab of the regulator into the corresponding space in the mechanism ring, then pull the nylon string hard and upwards to block the mechanism.
  • Put the cover D and the red handle C back into place. Make sure the holes are in line with the holes on the mechanism.
  • Insert the pin B
  • To fit the nylon string onto its holder. Pass the nylon string through the loop on the shoe tongue. Insert the nylon string into the holder from the round side.
    High-Security Velcro
  • The Velcro strap on the front part of the shoe features recessed (hidden) opposing polymer teeth that engage onto each other when the strap is closed. This feature makes the closure more secure and the Velcro becomes absolutely unmovable.

Adjustable Heel Retention Device

The adjustable heel retention device reinforces the top of the heel cup and improves fit by closing the back of the shoe more securely around the rider’s ankle. The heel retention device tightens the top of the heel cup so that it doesn’t slip during steep climbs or sprints. It can be adjusted with two small screws that work independently from each other. For a custom adjustment turn the screw towards the + sign to tighten the heel retention device and towards the – sign to open it.

SiDi Heel

The reinforced heel keeps the foot in position and avoids the shoe being deformed by extreme performance or prolonged pressure. Available in all SiDi shoes

SiDi Soles

Carbon Lite

SiDi Carbon Lite Soles are specially designed for road cycling. The sole is rigid all throughout as common with traditional road shoes, but provides a little more flex around the toes. The result is a shoe that allows better blood circulation for improved foot health. The Sole is lighter as well, allowing road cycling to generate more speed with less effort.

While traditional road shoes are not easy to walk on, SiDi shoes with Carbon Lite soles have an anti-slip insert at the toe and a polyurethane heel pad which not only makes it much easier to walk, but is also replaceable – adding years to the life of you shoes.

Carbon Composite

Carbon Composite Soles are designed for SiDi road shoes. This sole is designed with carbon fibre and nylon and is thinner at the toe to provide flex.

Millennium 3

The Millennium 3 sole is another design for SiDi Road shoes. This sole is fortified with carbon fibre and is compatible with the best road pedals on the market. To facilitate cleat replacement, the Millennium 3 sole features a 10 mm horizontal and vertical cleat alignment scale moulded into the sole as well as the Look Memory Eyelet.

MTB SRS Carbon

The MTB SRS Carbon Sole has a pure carbon insert reaching from the heel to the toe. The carbon insert and the treads are actually bolted into the sole, which gives the premium SiDi MTB shoes a slight amount of flex in the toe while retaining excellent stiffness and power transfer in the body of the shoe. These are durable, high mileage, high performance shoes and come with a polyurethane anti-slip insert for the times when you need to get off and push the bike.

MTB Competition Sole

The MTB Competition Sole is designed for SiDi MTB and SiDi Triathlon shoes.

SiDi Lasts

The last is the foot-shape the shoe is designed around. SiDi shoes have always been designed to achieve the perfect fit possible and it’s why our collection includes in addition to the standard last two specialty lasts, Mega and Women.

_SIDI-TECHNOLOGY_14_15eng-1_06Standard Last

The standard last is made from a man’s feet and follows the standard proportions and contours of the male feet. Except for the mega and the women’s shoes, all SiDi shoes are based on the proportions of this standard last.

Mega last

Studied and projected for who has high arches, wide or high-volume feet. It’s properly shaped and proportioned for larger feet. Mega is available in the Genius 6.6, Five, Genius pro, and Zephyr models.

Women’s specific last

The women’s SiDi shoe mould isn’t just smaller or narrower compared with the standard one; it’s shaped for a woman’s lower-volume foot and proportionately narrow heel. Studied and designed to fit women’s feet.
